Try-Out Information for Swimmers
· To try out for our competitive swim team, your swimmer needs to be capable of swimming 25 yards (12 years old and under) or 50 yards (13 years old & over) of Freestyle and Backstroke strongly, comfortably, and continuously in order to qualify for our entry level training groups. For Freestyle, their face needs to be in the water, arms recovering over the surface, have a strong, consistent flutter kick, and breathing to the side. For Backstroke, their head needs to be back in the water, body high on top of the water, and have a strong, consistent flutter kick. If your swimmer is not quite ready to meet these requirements yet, please consider our summer swim lesson program or continue with a learn to swim program until they are ready.
· Swimmers will be evaluated and placed into one of our competitive swim team groups based on their age, ability level in the competitive swimming strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly), and their coachability demonstrated within the evaluation. Please note: these evaluations will take place in deeper water, so your swimmer must be capable of meeting the qualifying criteria listed above and comfortable doing so in deeper water.
· Since we are a competitive swimming program, participation in frequent competition will be an expectation for all members of our competitive swim team. Participating in these meets is a way for swimmers to showcase the skills learned and developed through practices, gain valuable racing experience, build relationships with their teammates, practice good sportsmanship, challenge themselves physically against their peers, and strengthen their relationships with their coaches and teammates. For our less experienced swimmers, we have FUN and low pressure meets designed specifically for them to build up their confidence and excitement about the sport, along with the other benefits listed above.
