Club History
The Edina Swim Club (ESC) was founded in 1957 and is one of the oldest swim clubs in Minnesota. It is a nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization, incorporated in the State of Minnesota, and run by the head coach and parent board of directors. The Edina Swim Club is also known as the Edina Gators or The Gators.
Edina Swim Club is one of approximately 60 member clubs of the Minnesota Chapter of USA Swimming (USA Swimming). USA Swimming is the national governing body for swimming in the United States. This organization sets the rules and administers competition on regional and national levels. The Minnesota Chapter is referred to as Minnesota Swimming, Inc. or MSI. It is interesting to note that the USA Swimming age group swimming program is America’s largest program of guided fitness activity for children.
With over 200 members, ESC is one of the largest USA Swimming teams in Minnesota. Over the course of its rich history, ESC has produced many individual state champions, nationally ranked swimmers, Junior National qualifiers, National qualifiers, and USA National Team members.
Although ESC is not affiliated with the Edina Public Schools or with the Edina Park and Recreation Department, it works closely with both.
